Everyone knows that the face of Larry Talbot went through changes with each full moon, but the face of his alter ego the Wolf
Man also went through some changes with each new movie. For the four Universal Wolf Man films made while he was head of the
Universal Pictures make-up department, Jack Pierce altered the design of his furry creation slightly with each production.
By the time ABBOTT & COSTELLO MEET FRANKENSTEIN was made, Bud Westmore had become head of the department and Lon Chaney's
make-up was altered even more noticeably. Over a decade later, Chaney again played a werewolf in the Mexican production LA
CASA DEL TERROR. In 1963 he donned the yak hair for the last time in an episode of the tv series ROUTE 66 called "Lizard's
Leg and Owlet's Wing" which also featured Boris Karloff and Peter Lorre. To compare the make-ups from each of Lon Chaney
Jr.'s seven appearances in Wolf Man make-up, see the photos below, but only under a full moon.
